Storm Babet

The recent Storm Babet has left a trail of destruction and uncertainty, affecting countless communities and businesses across various regions. The current event hit several areas, bringing strong winds up to 70mph, heavy rainfall, and widespread flooding. The Storm first hit on the 18th of November and has continued causing devastation, with many homes and businesses affected. Entire communities have been affected, with many properties hit by flooding or structural damage, with thousands having to evacuate or be stranded. Several National parks have also been affected.

Parts of Scotland saw up to 176mm of rainfall in 36 hours, with the usual monthly average between 100mm and 130mm. Lincolnshire police reported receiving 712 emergency 999 calls compared to the regular 400 on the 20th of October, with a vast increase to 101 calls received.
Although the Storm has officially passed, yellow flood and rain warnings have been put in place until the 29th of October, as further rain is expected.

As exceptionally high water levels remain, we advise people to stay informed, safe and alert, checking on those vulnerable and living alone after seven people tragically lost their lives.
